I am registered with ancestry.co.uk and find this an incredibly valuable site but I have a question to pose

If I have a 70 yr old Ellen Nelson residing with my Ellithorne family at Census 1841 and I can't find her earlier on BMD then where else can I look?

I have tried the LDS webpages with no success i.e. assuming she is from the Lancaster area and born circ. 1770 Is the next step to do a trawl of the Lancashire Record Office or is there a method of searching via the internet for other materials that will identify this person?

I am trying to keep an open mind but wonder if she is the mat. grandmother to my Anthony Nelson Ellithorne whose first sister was called Ellen Ellithorne. [didn't somebody on ParishChat say that its not uncommon for distant rellies to have their names passed down thro generations via their children or grandchildren:rolleyes:

any ideas are welcomed

follow your thoughts is the message!!!!!

I have simply written on a piece of paper what my initial thoughts were in my last message i.e. Ellen Nelson being Margaret Ellithorne's mother and guess what A BIG SURPRISE:eek: I went back on LDS IGI and discovered Margaret's parents were Ellen and Anthony Nelson of Lancaster and Margaret was baptised 11/1/1794 in Lancaster.

I also found Anthony Nelson had married Ellen Cooper 16/11/1791 at same church - this is particularly interesting because their youngest grandson was called William Cooper Ellithorne so like the surname Nelson, Cooper was used as a middle name through the Ellithorne family tree:eek:

Perhaps there is a message here for all of us to learn how our distant relatives used first and second names!!!:D
