does anybody have examples of family tree software which they have used that is easy, preferrably free and allows the flexibility to go back many generations. Especially looking for software that I can download my Ged.com files too:)
for example, I would like this year to create Xmas presents with illustrations of our family tree with all the rellies and their details on an actual tree. Then, I plan to have the pictures framed and give them to the relatives who I feel would like this information ;D
-- can anybody assist:rolleyes:

Hi Chris,
Give Legacy Family Tree a try. There is a free version and if you like it you can upgrade to the deluxe version at a very reasonable cost.
I would highly recommend it, good sourcing, easy to use and good handling of photos etc.
The link to the website where you can download a copy is

Let me know how you get on :D

thanks Sally:)
was given some software at Xmas time but it didn't include an actual family tree as an illustration
the other thing I was wanting to know - is it Henry D who said he had access to printing information of a family tree larger than A4 or A3 size??

Yes, Chris, 'twas me that mentioned printing at large scale.
I generate my trees manually rather than automatically via Gedcom. I would be happy to do a tree for you if you wanted, for a very small fee. Cost of prints depends on size. I usually pay about £10 for an A1 size in B/W or about £30 for colour.
Alternatively, I'm sure you could find a print bureau in your area that could do this for you. Beware though, their clients are usually engineering or architectural companies, and they probably wouldn't be able to handle Gedcom files directly.
I did spot a small company who specialised in all sorts of genealogical charts produced automatically from Gedcoms. Unfortunately I didn't keep a note of their name. A bit of googling should find it though.
