Does anybody know any good web sites that I can browse to find out the origins of the surname Greenough
I know there are numerous ways of spelling this surname and family members have suggested its a name accustomed to be found in the north of England
any suggestions would be welcomed
Chris

forgot to mention
a few weeks of ago you gave me the website details of 'house of names'
I have subsequently looked at this and discovered the origins of my married name and clearly it has its roots in the north of England. My mother in law comes from the west coast of Ireland and was absolutely shocked to discover that her maiden name isn't Irish but has its roots in Wales - landing in Ireland in the 1400's
I have copied the family crests now from 6 different family names onto my tribal pages and imported them into the oldest person [so far] so they come up in the section where you can add photographs - just adds a new dimension for a newbie like me!!
thanks
Chris
Hi Chris,
Glad you found the website helpful, I must do the same with the family crests, but I've always got my nose in census and bmd's, I never seem to have enough time to do half of what I want to do.
You should tell your MIL that it's OK not to have originated in Ireland...at least one can trace ancestors in the UK...as for Ireland, it's hopeless (from here anyway)
I have decided that the old saying 'All roads lead to Rome' should be 'All roads lead to Ireland'. Dead end.
Glad your back and that you had a good break away from the woes of the press etc...We here have just started being blitzed by the media because of our troops being sent to East Timor to try to stop the machete weilding rebels there. If it's not one thing it's another.
