I've now run some maintenace scripts on the forum databse to try and sort out the login problems. If from now on you still are having probelms logging in please could you let me know so that I can try and sort the problem out.

Don't forget that you can post a reply to this message to let me know of any problems as a guest but please tell me what username you are trying to login with as it may help me isolate the problem.

Fingers crossed here that no-one replies ;D

Hi Chris

Thanks for that ... we will see how it goes and whether it is just Len that is having problems. If the symptoms persist (did you like that one? ;D) I may do something radical ... and move the boards to parishmouse.co.uk (which has a much faster server so the boards will load faster and more space) and install a really posh forum run by the software VBulletin which is used by a lot of companies as it is fast, stable, and stops spam (which we are bound to get sooner or later on this board) and is less susceptible to hacking ... which means for me less time sorting it all out and more time for me and transcribing which has got to be good for everyone. The best thing is, although it is commercial software it is not at all expensive so watch out Marty i may be after your moneybox ;D

Hi Gang

How are we all doing with the login issue ... has it gone away or are you all still finding problems. I've checked on the software developer's site and quite a few people are having the same issue so we are not alone. There are a few suggestions of things that I might be able to do to try and sort the problem out which I am willing to try if we are still having problems.

Please let me know as if we can sort it out that seems preferable to doing anything more radical.

Hi Gang,

Well I know the probelm still exists as it did it to me tonight :( I've tried all the suggested temporary fixes but none of them work ... but I can tell you how to get round the problem ;D

The easiest way is to click the login text that says "Guest. Please login or Register" I've added a picture below so you can see more clearly where I mean. The login link will take you to a new login screen and that should work fine.

The other way is to simply enter your password a second time when it tells you that you have entered an incorrect password and that should work.

I hope this helps those of you having problems ... I'm really sorry about this but it is a bug in the software so there is very little I can do about it and I don't really want to change to different software if we can all live with this problem until the bods at SMF can come up with a solution. At least we know its not just us!

Anyway hope this helps you all

Hi Sally, :)

No problems here at all, but if I encounter any, I shall follow your instructions.

What a bother to have a bug in the software >:(

Kaye. :)

Hi Sally,

When it tells me that it doesn't recognise my password I simply said a few choice words, deleted the password and put it in again - I was then able to log in.

The bug seems to be slightly dyslexic :)

Maggie :)
